you should ask Sina! I'm sure he could give you a good suggestion since this is kind of similar to his comic style.
My instinct is that you should add some kind of abstract grey background behind the figures...Not a perfect shape behind them, but maybe a contrasting grey area in back where the edges look dry painted. You could do this in photoshop, or if this is on bristol board, or something like that, you could do a grey wash.
